Solar Energy Gains Traction in New York
Earlier this month, the New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) awarded 16 businesses in New York a total of $30 million to fund commercial solar photovoltaic projects. NYSERDA also issued requests for proposals for an additional $107 million for similar projects as part of its NY-SUN Initiative, designed to help businesses in the Empire State go solar.
The $30 million award will supplement the cost of projects sited at commercial facilities such as manufacturing plants, schools, apartment buildings and department stores, assisting in bringing 34 megawatts of solar projects online in 2013.
This announcement from NYSERDA signals the ongoing commitment to renewable energy by states in the Energy Professionals service footprint. As we mentioned in an earlier post, we continue to see an increased interest in wind energy. And as investment in cleaner energy increases, costs will decrease and make commercial implementation more common.
Energy Professionals can help its clients go solar now by leveraging our extensive network of solar energy consultants to guide them through the process. A solar installation reduces reliance on fluctuating energy costs, and typically increases property values.
“When companies decide to transition to solar energy, we can help,” Energy Professionals Executive Director Jim Warrick said. “We match them with industry experts known for maximizing energy efficiencies and applying for renewable energy tax credits.”
